Look!!! I still sew stuff!!!!

Image
I know!  With work and faire season and swords and stuff.... I've been busy!!!  Oh and there were finals in there somewhere too!  (Which, for those who care, I made a 4.0 for the semester!!! And one of those classes was Anatomy & Physiology) I've been working on a doublet for one of the men in my sword fighting group. Check us out:  http://www.thehowlingblades.com/ It's made out of this really pretty green brocade and it's very lightweight which will be nice at faire.  I have the sleeves done for it, they're just not in this picture.  This is a hybrid of both views of Simplicity Patter 4059.  It's pretty much the top half of the long sleeved doublet and the bottom half of the sleeveless one. I've also been planning upcoming costumes for A-Fest and such. I'm still torn between Prince Diamond from Sailor Moon and Chrona from Soul eater. Click below for details on the two. http://www.risingnewmoonstudios.blogspot.com/2012/06/fes...

Updating the Gallery

That's pretty much it... I've spent the past 3 hours updating the gallery here... and it's taking FOREVER!!!! So far I have the main gallery page updated... well... at least with the names of all the costumes I've done. However I don't have a lot of the thumbnails made for the newer costumes (so you'll see placeholders). The other thing I have to do is make new pages for each of the costumes... and that's going to take a while... but eventually, you'll be able to click on each of the thumbnails and instead of being taken to the slideshow, you'll go to that costume's very own page. So yeah... that'll take a while.

Two cool tutorials.

just a couple of quick links to some pretty cool tutorials... the first is on drafting patterns. http://jezebel.com/5916905/how-to-turn-your-dress-idea-into-reality-by-making-your-very-own-custom-pattern this website also links to other tutorials such as basic sewing and stuff... Another tutorial that I liked was how to make your own dress form... I've seen a number of tutorials for dress forms... This one seems a little more complicated than duct tape but the idea is similar and it looks like the final results would be more accurate. http://jezebel.com/5803791/how-to-make-a-custom-dress-form-part-one

Sexy Cosplay done well

Image
I was browsing through some cosplay pics on Deviantart and I came across this picture... These are the villains from the season 1 finale of Sailor Moon.  If you haven't seen it... all you need to know is that these five chicks and the five sailors took turns killing each other... But that's not the point.  The point is why I heart these coplays.  Aside from the creativity and the execution, you'll notice that the girls aren't body painted... rather they're wearing bodysuits.  I love how they used airbrushing on the fabric to enhance their bodies... even giving the illusion of cleavage without showing actual cleavage.... the two on the left look like they've painted in some musculature.   And the actual "costumes" (the super skimpy bikinis) look like their either being worn over or sewn onto the body suits. This is a really nice way to pull off a costume like this without being nearly naked. So yeah.  I just like this alot.

A-Fest is in 3 months... I guess I should start planning.

Hello Everyone! I know.... I haven't been very good about blogging the past several weeks.  But with work and faire and all that, I've been busy... So this past weekend was A-kon.  And I didn't go because... well... I was kind of strapped on cash because I went to Dallas Comic Con a few weeks before that. I had hoped to have all sorts of great pics from DCC to show you guys... but instead spent most of my time waiting in line for things.. Soooo... no costume pictures... sorry. Anyway, I've been browsing though pictures of costume pics from A-kon from my friends who DID make it and then I realized that A-fest isn't far off so I should start plotting my next costume... Here's a couple of ideas and thoughts... I'd love to see what everyone thinks and I'm open to other suggestions as well... First up is Prince Diamond from Sailor Moon... I've always loved this costume and I think I could do it justice... I'm thinking the jacket would be...
