Sailor Moon: Sailor Neptune

Image
S ailor Moon   Sailor Neptune Completed August 2011 Items Made: Dress, Choker, Glove Cuffs. This and Sailor Uranus were my 2nd attempt at Sailor Suits and it's amazing how much I've improved since then.  But I'm absolutely in love with these!   The dress, collar, bows and choker were made, the glove tops were made and added to a store bought pair of gloves.  The shoes were purchased and painted and the ribbons added.  The tiara was purchased from Catzia's Collectibles and is beautiful and totally worth the money. PS. I bought the smooth gem tiaras and had the metal ring detail added around the stone.  It costs a little more but looks better if you ask me. I also bought the pendant Neptune wears on her choker which turned out to be craft foam and an acrylic gem... I thought it would be metal with a gem... but, oh well. Sailor Moon: Darien/Mamoru Original Concept

Image
S ailor Moon   Darien/Mamoru Original Concept Completed July 2006 Items Made:Jacket This is an original design for a costume to complement a Lolita/babydoll version of Serena (Usagi). It's made of white twill microsuede with light blue lining and piping.  Although in hindsight, I should have talked the cosplayer to choose white and lavender as the colors to allude to Darien/Mamoru's later evolution into King Endymion -- who wears a lavender tuxedo.

Sailor Moon Sailor Moon Created July 2006 Items Made: Dress, Cape, Gloves (not pictured). Looking back on this, I have to say that this wasn't a bad attempt, although, my next round of Sailor Suits came out much better.   Most importantly I knew that this particular costume was going to be worn by a girl with curves, so instead of using stretch fabric and a leotard pattern, I found a dress pattern with an empire waist, loose upper bodice, and a v-neckline.  The lower bodice has some seaming detail which I could have omitted, but I thought that it wasn't terribly distracting and would help with the silhouette and would address the needs of a curvy figure.  The cosplayer wanted the costume to be shiny so I used high sheen fabrics -- Windsor Satin for the Bodice, Skirt, and Collar. The Cape was requested by the client to reflect some early Sailor Moon drawings. It is made from Silver Foil Knit and Costume Satin and is reversible. ...

Sailor Senshi Uniform Tutorial -- Part 2

Unlike Part 1 of this tutorial.  Part two is still in rough draft mode.  I will revise and clarify this section when I have time. Okay. So now were going to get into the harder parts of the costume. Like the hip roll, the cuffs, and the sleeves. Hip roll thing: This will sound crazy, but you’re going to need one of those under the door draft blocker things... Well just the foam. I found a kit at Wal-mart that had 2 of them in a box for like 14 bucks. Anyway, there are 4 pieces of foam for each under door draft blocker (so there were 8 piece in the box) You’re going to take two of those and cut angles on the ends until they form the desired V-shape. I don’t know the exact degree of the angle, just shave away small angles until you get it to look right. Then I glued the ends together with E6000 and smeared the glue out away from the joint to form kind of a overlap over the foam (just for a little extra support surface adhesion). A few long straight pins will hold ...

Let's face it, Sailor Fukus (outfits) are HARD!!! So, I took notes when I made the two fukus pictured above.  Now I don't mean to brag, but I think these came out AMAZING!  So I'm going to share all of my secrets with you!!! Bodysuit Basics: The base pattern you'll need is going to be Kwik-Sew 3836.  I liked that this pattern has a lot of the ideal details that fukus have -- the underbust seamline, and the sewn in skirt with the attached trunks, etc.  I also used pieces from McCalls 6166. I left mine open at the crotch and the dress goes on overhead and fastens at the crotch with hooks and snaps.  That way I didn't have to sneak any zippers in there.   For fabric, I used a medium-heavy stretch satin that I found at Jo-ann Fabrics. And using a 40% off coupon I think I got it for around 6 or 7 bucks a yard. The downside is that while the satin looks pretty, there isn’t that much of a stretch to it so the dress is difficult to get on and off. ...
