Green Doublet Done!!!!


Here's a few pictures of my latest finished project!!!  Not much to say about this one other than it's a doublet in pretty green brocade.  It's pretty much per the pattern (Simplicity 4059) except that I changed the bottom of View A with the bottom altered to match View B.  Also if it looks kind of slouchy, remember that this is a men's garment and Gemmima (my mannequin) is a woman with narrow women's shoulders. Oh, there are like 2 dozen buttons on this doublet so be prepared to handsew.

It may be a little difficult to see without an undershirt but, the sleeves are slashed and they also detach for versatility.

  Fullmetal Alchemist Lust Completed Sept. 2010   Items Made: Dress This costume was awesome to make. We kind of deviated from the actual design in that we made the dress floor length with a slight train and there's a thigh high slit up the front of the leg (sexy). The dress itself is made from hunter green satin with a black chiffon overlay so the dress looks black with a green tint. Because if you look at a lot of the anime pics, the highlights are done with dark green. The gloves were store bought and the detail was burgundy cording hand sewn onto the glove s.  The tattoo purchased from an online vendor. A Midsummer Night's Dream: Fairy Wings

A Midsummer Night's Dream Fairy Wings Completed November 2014 Items Made: Two Large and Seven Regular Pairs of Wings I was asked by the costume designer at McLennan Community College if I could make 9 pairs of fairy wings for their production of A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare.   I had never made wings before, but I said yes.  They came out AMAZING and now I'm a wing making master!  lol! We needed wings for Oberon and Titania and the four named fairies in the play, plus they added 3 more because reasons?   My only parameters given by the designer were that she wanted them to be insect like... not high fantasy... and that she wanted Oberon's to be up and Titania's to be down.   This was my design for the fairy court.  I believe these were based on bee wings.  I thought bees were also fitting as the fairies flit about caring for the queen. Friday Favorites: X-men cosplay

I've decided to change my original idea a little... originally I was going to pic one costume or cosplay and critique it.... Well that proved way too difficult so instead I'm just going to grab several various pics... themed of course, and run with that... I'll try to make a few comments on each so you can maybe see it how I see it. So today's cosplay theme will be X-men.  Why? Because X-men are awesome!! Here's a really good example of Colossus showing the power of makeup and simple cosplaying.  This guy isn't that muscular... don't get me wrong, he's not scrawny, but with makeup and using highlight and shadow he's given himself the illusion of a much more muscular physique.  The rest of his costume is just a pair of cargo pants and an X-men belt buckle... a buckle of which I need to find one for my very own.  I really would have like to seen one of Colossus' more recognizable costumes though...
